BowserBuddy is a free fuel price comparison tool for Australian motorists. We take your privacy seriously and collect as little data as possible. We do not require accounts, logins, or personal information to use the service.
If you choose to share your location (via the "Use my location" button), your browser sends your approximate coordinates to our server to find nearby fuel stations. This location data is not stored — it is used only to process your request and is discarded immediately.
You can use BowserBuddy without sharing your location by panning and zooming the map manually or searching for an address.
We use Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights to understand how the site performs and which pages are visited. These tools collect anonymised, aggregated data such as page views, load times, and Web Vitals metrics. They do not use cookies or track individual users across sessions. We use Sentry to detect and fix bugs. When an error occurs, Sentry may collect technical information such as your browser type, operating system, the page URL, and the error message. No personal information is collected. See Sentry's privacy policy for details.
The interactive map is powered by MapTiler (tiles and geocoding) and the open-source MapLibre GL renderer. Map data comes from OpenStreetMap contributors. When the map loads, your browser connects to MapTiler's servers to fetch map tiles. MapTiler may collect your IP address and usage data in accordance with their privacy policy.
BowserBuddy displays advertisements via Google AdSense to help cover hosting costs. Google AdSense uses cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings.
When you first visit BowserBuddy, a cookie consent banner lets you accept or reject advertising cookies. If you reject, Google will serve non-personalised ads that do not use cookies for ad targeting. For more information, see how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
BowserBuddy uses cookies set by Google AdSense for ad serving and frequency capping. Our hosting provider (Vercel) may also set essential cookies. We do not set any first-party tracking cookies. Your cookie preference (accept/reject) is stored in your browser's local storage.
BowserBuddy saves your fuel preferences (such as fill-up litres and fuel consumption rate) in your browser's local storage so they persist between visits. This data stays on your device and is never sent to our servers.
Fuel price data is sourced from government APIs including the Queensland Government fuel price reporting scheme and the NSW Government FuelCheck API. We display this data as-is and are not responsible for its accuracy. See our Terms of Service for more.
To protect the service, we apply rate limits based on your IP address. IP addresses used for rate limiting are held in memory only and are not logged or stored.
BowserBuddy is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of BowserBuddy after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
