About BowserBuddy

Free live fuel prices for Australian motorists

What is BowserBuddy?

BowserBuddy is a free fuel price comparison tool that shows live petrol, diesel, E10, and LPG prices at service stations across Australia. We pull prices directly from government fuel price reporting schemes, so you can trust the data is official and up-to-date.

The map updates every 15 minutes for Queensland and every 30 minutes for New South Wales, ACT, and Tasmania. You can search by address, use your current location, or just pan the map to find cheap fuel near you.

Where we cover

BowserBuddy currently covers four Australian states and territories:

  • Queensland — data from the Queensland Government fuel price reporting scheme, updated every 15 minutes.
  • New South Wales — data from the NSW Government FuelCheck API, updated every 30 minutes.
  • Australian Capital Territory — also via the NSW FuelCheck API, updated every 30 minutes.
  • Tasmania — also via the NSW FuelCheck API, updated every 30 minutes.

More states are on the way. The app is built to support every Australian state and territory — each new state just needs a connection to its government fuel data source.

Features

  • Live map with colour-coded price pins — green for cheapest, amber for close to cheapest.
  • Loyalty discounts — toggle Everyday Rewards or Flybuys to see estimated discounted prices.
  • Price history charts — see how a station, suburb, or local government area's prices have changed over time.
  • "Worth the Drive" calculator — tells you whether driving to a cheaper station will actually save you money after fuel costs.
  • Navigation links — one tap to open directions in Google Maps, Apple Maps, or Waze.
  • All fuel types — U91, E10, U95, U98, Diesel, Premium Diesel, and LPG.

How it works

Australian states require fuel retailers to report their prices to a government database. BowserBuddy reads from those databases on a regular schedule, stores the prices, and displays them on the map. We don't scrape or crowdsource — every price you see comes from an official government source.

Daily aggregates are calculated overnight so we can show price history trends at the station, suburb, and local government area level.

Is it really free?

Yes. BowserBuddy is a personal project, built and run by one person. There are no paywalls, no accounts to create, and no data sold. We show a small number of ads to help cover hosting costs, but the service itself is completely free. The government APIs that supply the price data are also free.
